What are some of the healthiest foods I should be eating every day?
I’ve broken things down into some of the most important foods/nutrients you want to be consuming on a daily basis, many of which have substitutions and alternatives if you do not care for one particular food like fish in getting your omega-3 fats.
-
Omega-3 Fats from chia/flax/salba/hemp seeds/walnuts/mackerel/salmon/tuna — anti-inflammatory, joint and brain health
-
Spinach/Kale/Bok Choy — folate
-
Carrots/Sweet Potato/Squash/Pumpkin — carotenoids
-
Tomato/Grapefruit/Guava/Papaya — lycopene
-
Blueberries/Acai Berry/Purple Grapes/Strawberries — antioxidants, fibre, Vit A & C
-
Oats/Quinoa/Wild Rice — fibre, protein
You can see that it can be quite easy to combine many of the above list together during your day to maximize the nutritional value for your health and fitness goals… remember that servings of fruits and vegetables are often smaller than you think so you’re likely consuming more of some and quite less of others.
Example combining all of the above:
Salmon with Quinoa Veggie Salad
- 3-4 oz wild caught broiled salmon
- 2 cups spinach
- 1/2 cup cooked quinoa
- 1/4 cup shredded carrot
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sliced strawberries
- 2 tbsp chopped walnuts
- Add in a few tbsp of an olive oil based vinaigrette and done!
